Visual & Performing Arts

Students can join Band or Orchestra starting in 5th grade and continue through high school, enhancing their musicianship and ensemble skills.

5th grade

Beginning students learn to assemble and care for instruments, produce sound, read music notation, and perform individually and as part of a group.

Middle School

Students develop individual and ensemble skills with more complex music and may engage in additional ensembles and events.

High School

Students further develop their performance and leadership skills by participating in various ensembles and events, such as concerts and festivals.

Beginning in middle school, students may participate in choir classes that develop vocal technique, music literacy, ensemble skills, and expressive performance.

Middle School Choir

Students learn to:

• Use appropriate vocal technique
• Read and perform music notation
• Sing independently and with an ensemble
• Respond to a conductor
• Perform music from a variety of cultures, traditions, and historical periods
• Demonstrate rehearsal and performance expectations

High School Choir

High school choir classes provide opportunities for students to perform increasingly complex music and develop advanced vocal and ensemble skills. Students may participate in multiple ensembles, concerts, festivals, adjudicated events, community performances, and Solo and Ensemble events.

Elementary music provides students with a foundation for lifelong musical learning. Through singing, playing instruments, moving, listening, creating, and performing, students develop musical skills and learn how music communicates ideas, emotions, traditions, and experiences.

Elementary students have opportunities to:

• Sing and perform a variety of music
• Explore rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression
• Play classroom instruments
• Create and improvise musical ideas
• Read and use age-appropriate music notation
• Listen to, describe, and respond to music
• Explore music from different cultures, communities, and historical periods
• Make connections between music and other areas of learning

Elementary music instruction prepares students for future participation in band, orchestra, choir, theatre, and other musical experiences.

Theatre offers students a chance to explore stories and human experiences through performance. In theatre classes, they develop creativity, communication, confidence, collaboration, problem-solving, and empathy while taking on roles such as performers, designers, and directors.

Aspire Performing Arts Academy’s Theatre Program

Aspire students are introduced to acting, storytelling, movement, voice, character development, and technical theatre.

High School Theatre

High school theatre programs cover:

• Acting and character development
• Script analysis
• Directing
• Playwriting
• Technical theatre
• Scene, costume, lighting, and sound design
• Theatre history and criticism
• Production and performance

Each school offers opportunities to participate in theatrical productions, with specific courses and requirements communicated by the school.

At NTPS, students work with a variety of artistic processes, materials, techniques, and forms as they develop their skills, confidence, and individual artistic voice.

Elementary Visual Art

Students explore line, shape, color, form, texture, space, and pattern, learning to generate ideas, experiment with materials, create original artwork, and discuss their own work and the work of others.

Middle School Visual Art

Middle school visual art classes expand artistic techniques and processes. Students develop ideas, make artistic choices, refine their work, and use feedback as part of the creative process.

High School Visual Art

High school visual art students select classes that support continued growth in technique, artistic thinking, reflection, and personal expression presenting portfolios of work while exploring connections among art, culture, history, identity, and contemporary life.
