School Improvement Projects

Thanks to voter support of the 2024 Capital Levy for Safety, Technology, and Facilities Improvements, we are enhancing student and staff safety, modernizing our IT infrastructure, and updating instructional technology.

Planned summer 2026 projects

We will be working on upgrades to several schools around the district this summer, thanks to voter support! Planned projects include:

Chambers Prairie Elementary: New interactive flat panels in all classrooms
Evergreen Forest Elementary: Enhanced classroom audio systems
Horizons Elementary: Parking lot resurfacing, fire alarm and intercom system upgrades, cooler/freezer replacement
Lacey Elementary: Security upgrades, improvements to kitchen equipment
Lydia Hawk Elementary: Bus loop upgrades
Lakes Elementary: Fire alarm upgrades, dishwasher replacement, security camera upgrades
Meadows Elementary: Intercom replacement
Mountain View Elementary: Improvements to kitchen equipment
Seven Oaks Elementary: Waterline for portable, fire alarm, and intercom system upgrades, portable relocation
South Bay Elementary: Security camera upgrades
Woodland Elementary: New interactive flat panels in all classrooms
Chinook Middle School: Security upgrades, boiler and chiller work, pump replacements, new interactive flat panels in all classrooms, enhanced classroom audio systems, security camera upgrades
Nisqually Middle School: Security upgrades and new interactive flat panels in all classrooms
Salish Middle School: Enhanced classroom audio systems
Envision Career Academy: New interactive flat panels in all classrooms, enhanced classroom audio systems
North Thurston High School: Air circulation improvements in the kitchen
River Ridge High School: Continued modernization work, including theater, career and technical education (CTE) building, new food serving area, turf football and rubberized track, greenhouse (project completion date is scheduled for summer 2027)
Timberline High School: Security camera upgrades; improvements to the CTE annex, with a new wood shop (project completion date is scheduled for January 2028)
New Chromebooks for all 6th- and 9th-grade students
Upgraded Chromebooks for 2nd- and 3rd-grade classroom carts

Key projects in summer 2025

During summer 2025, we installed new 86-inch interactive flat panels (IFPs) to replace end-of-life projectors at Timberline High School, and Lacey, Lydia Hawk, Meadows, Olympic View, and Pleasant Glade Elementary Schools. We will continue installing IFPs over the next two years in all remaining schools that still use wall-mounted projectors.
In 2025-26, we will refresh student Chromebooks for all 6th- and 9th-grade students. Summit Virtual Academy students got a full refresh of student laptops to meet the demands of the online curriculum.
Our network team will install about 1,200 higher-capacity, faster wireless access points across all district buildings to meet staff and student needs for daily instruction, large events, testing, and public Wi-Fi.
We installed new street signage displays at Timberline High School, Nisqually Middle School, and Lakes and Horizons Elementary Schools for family and community information.
We installed upgraded audiovisual cabling at North Thurston High School, Salish Middle School, and Evergreen Forest and Pleasant Glade Elementary Schools. The new wiring maximizes the resolution on the existing displays and increases the reliability of the computer connections.

Projects in 2025-26 school year and beyond

We rolled out 3,000 new Chromebooks across all 4th- and 5th-grade classrooms and elementary libraries to ensure they were ready for spring assessments.
Our network team is installing 1,200 higher-capacity, faster wireless access points in all district buildings to meet staff and student needs for daily instruction, large events, testing, and public Wi-Fi. The installation is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
Upgrading the NTPS security camera system with additional coverage, higher-resolution cameras, increased storage, and an improved user experience to enhance student and staff safety.
Refreshing assistive technology iPads and specialized Chromebooks to support technology accommodations for students with special needs.
Installing large-format projectors in gyms and commons to replace aging projectors and audio systems.
Upgrading battery backup systems and redundant connectivity solutions to maintain critical services and keep buildings connected during inclement weather or equipment failures.
Continuing our upgrades of elementary student devices for kindergarten through 3rd-grade classes.
Upgrading critical network switching and wireless infrastructure at all sites to keep up with staff and student needs and ensure the reliability of our systems.
Increasing network resilience with backup fiber connections between critical network hubs in NTPS to minimize the impact of outages on teaching and learning.
